Web Hosting for the Moroccan Market — Complete Guide

5 min read

Web hosting is often the most overlooked decision when creating a website. Yet it’s one of the factors that most directly determines loading speed, uptime, and Google search rankings.

What is a web host?

A web host stores your site’s files (images, pages, code) on servers with permanent internet connectivity. When a visitor types your address into their browser, your host’s server delivers the page.

The quality of that host directly determines:

  • Loading speed (direct SEO impact since 2021 via Core Web Vitals)
  • Uptime — a bad host causes your site to go down
  • Security — automatic backups, DDoS protection, SSL certificate

Hosting types

Shared hosting

Your site shares server resources with other sites. The cheapest option, but performance can fluctuate based on neighbors’ activity. Budget: 300–800 MAD/year — suitable for brochure sites and blogs.

VPS (Virtual Private Server)

A server virtually dedicated to your site. Better performance, more control, requires technical skill or an agency for management. Budget: 800–3,000 MAD/year — recommended for e-commerce and high-traffic sites.

Cloud (Vercel, Netlify, AWS)

Ideal for modern sites (Next.js, Astro). Excellent performance, usage-based pricing. Budget: Free for small sites — pay-per-use for heavy traffic.

Host comparison for Morocco

The often-forgotten factor: server location

A server in Europe (France, Germany) loads 2–3x faster in Morocco than a US-based server. For a site primarily targeting Moroccan visitors, OVH France or Hostinger Europe are strong choices.

SSL certificate: mandatory, not optional

Your site must have an SSL certificate (the https:// and padlock in the browser). Without SSL:

  • Google penalizes you in search rankings
  • Browsers display “Not Secure” to your visitors
  • Online payments are impossible

The good news: all hosts listed above offer free SSL via Let’s Encrypt.

What to check before signing up

  • Guaranteed uptime — look for 99.9% minimum
  • Automatic backups — daily or weekly frequency
  • Technical support — available by email, chat, or phone
  • Migration ease — you must be able to change hosts without data loss
  • What’s included: domain name, professional email, SSL

AjialSkills’ recommendation

For most Moroccan SMEs (Tétouan, Tanger, and surrounding regions), we recommend Hostinger Business or OVH Pro for a brochure or e-commerce site. These are the hosts we use for our clients — solid value, good Morocco performance, responsive support.

If your site is built with Astro or Next.js, Vercel delivers exceptional performance with a very generous free tier.
